“Confidence is not ‘They will like me’. Confidence is ‘I’ll be fine if they don’t’”

This is one of those things which is really important in the life of a student. Having confidence in yourself helps you to enhance your capabilities and discover your potential.

Self-confidence is an essential part of humanity. A person with self-confidence generally likes themselves, is willing to take risks to achieve their personal and professional goals, and sees future in an optimistic manner.

Someone who lacks self-confidence, however, is less likely to feel that they can achieve their goals, and tends to have a pessimistic perspective about themselves and what they hope to gain in life.

The good news is that you can improve your self-confidence! Building self-confidence requires you to cultivate a positive attitude about yourself and your social interactions, while also learning to eliminate any negative emotions that arise and practicing better self-care.

You should learn to set goals and take risks, as well, since meeting challenges can further improve your self-confidence.

For a simple example of self-confidence in real life, let me give you my example- So, I decided to participate in a JAM competition which was going to be held in my school, at the Inter-House level. JAM is nothing but ‘Just A Minute’ speech on a given topic. At the class level, I got selected, which meant that I was going for the competition. In the competition, I heard the other students say their JAM’s and suddenly I felt nervous that my JAM is not going to be up to the mark, and I should back out. But, I didn’t do so. I reminded myself that I am lucky to be part of this competition from so many students in my grade, and that I should have confidence in myself. This made my JAM sound really good. I did not win, but I learned the lesson that self-confidence can help eliminate negative thoughts from our mind, which in this case was my fear of not performing well.

Therefore, I suggest that if you lack in self-confidence and are shy or nervous to do things in front of people, don’t be! Instill self-confidence in yourself with the help of you elders, and you will be fine!
